LIES THE DEVIL TELLS YOU TO KEEP YOU FROM READING THE BIBLE
The Bible is clearly the devil’s least favorite book. Because it exposes his game plan, how he fell from grace, and how he ends up. So best believe he’s going to try all tricks to get you to not read it. But the Bible is God’s love letter to you, so you’ve got to read it!
When you make a plan to get closer to God, you’ve declared war with the adversary of God. His battleground is the mind, and his biggest weapon is deception—lies. But we have nothing to fear because we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us (Romans 8:37).
Here are 4 lies the devil tells to prevent you from reading the Bible. Know his tricks, and don’t fall for them!
1. “You are so busy! You have too many things to do, and your days are so filled up! You won’t be able to find the time to read the Bible daily!”
TRUTH: We can do all things through Christ that strengthens us (Philippians 4:13). We find time for the things that are important to us, and if we are honest, we know that there are at least 15-30 minutes in each day that we can claw back and make more productive. We definitely can read the Bible daily!
2. “The scriptures are boring and unexciting! You can be spending this time watching exciting videos on social media instead."
TRUTH: "These things have I spoken unto you, that my (Jesus) joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full" - John 15:11 There's excitement, and then there's joy. Our portion in Christ - what Jesus wants to give us - is joy that knows no bounds, knows no limits. And that joy is sourced in the revelation of what He has done for us - the salvation He has secured, the benefits He has created access to, and the hope that awaits us through Him in glory. Which is what the Bible details out. What else really could be more exciting, really?
3. LIE: “You don’t know how to read to understand on a normal day, so how can you understand such a complex book as the Bible?!”
TRUTH: "The entrance of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple." - Psalm 119:130. There's no level of intellect that can miss out on what God has to offer us in His word. We read the Bible relying on Him and trusting Him to open the eyes of our understanding. And He will come through for us.
4. LIE: “See, you've tried several bible reading plans and failed every time. You can't possibly read through the entire bible. Give up!”
TRUTH: "For though a righteous man may fall seven times, he still gets up..." - Proverbs 24:16. It doesn't matter how many times you've skipped or fallen off. Our God is the God of second chances. He wants us to succeed in this race, so His grace will always be available to us anytime we want to start again or continue.
