AND ABRAM CALLED ON THE NAME OF HIS GOD
Gen 13:4 Unto the place of the altar, which he had made there at the first: and there Abram called on the name of the LORD.
Had an experience once while praying. As I mentioned the name "God" a thought dropped, "Which God are you actually referring to?" I then paused, and started calling on the names of my God. Adonai, El-Shaddai, Lord of hosts, the Alpha and the Omega, Elohim.
Most human beings have called the name "God" at least once in their lifetime. But most humans know that that appellation God is not for the same being - there are thousands of gods reckoned with in today's world. Gods of religion, gods of money, gods of fame and success, gods of secret powers, etc.
So, dear Christian, who is your God, and who is God to you? The Christian God is a God of distinction. It's even in one of His titles - El Elyon, the Most High God. He is elevated and high above any and every other god.
Psalm 97:9 - For you, Lord, are Most High over all the earth; you are raised high over all the gods.
He does not want to be confused or mixed up with any other god, and the Bible highlights how He distinguishes Himself time and time again.
Now - here's what's interesting about the mentions of this title of God, El Elyon, in the Bible. The only 2 people in the Bible that used this title of God in their daily conversations, were Abraham and Daniel. (Lucifer did too, in Isaiah 14:14, but out of envy and covetousness of that distinguished position of God, so he doesn't count). There are several psalms referring to the Most High God, but only Abraham and Daniel are on record for using this title in their conversations with others. Abraham started using this name of God after he met Melchizedek King of Salem, who hailed him and said "...blessed be Abram of the Most High God, possessor of heaven and earth:" (Genesis 14:19).
When we reflect on the lives of these two men, it's clear how God showed up as the God of distinction in their lives. I'm so glad the God I serve is the Most High God, I'm sure you are too 😀
Here are a few verses to reflect on on the wonders of the Most High God:
Psalm 57:2 - I will cry unto God Most High: unto God that performeth all things for me.
Psalm 91:9-10 - Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; there shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling
Psalm 92:1 - It's a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High:
Psalm 91:1 - He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
