"All the days of the afflicted are evil..."

"All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast." (Proverbs 15:15) The first time I encountered the above passage, I tried to reflect on many other alternate meanings there could be asides from what comes to mind at first glance. But there's no getting away from the obvious: your life is shaped by your perspective.  The interesting thing about affliction is that it is typically no respecter of persons. Young or old, rich or poor, healthy or sick - it is an equal opportunity offender. It takes different forms: financial, spiritual, mental, physical, the list goes on. There are the severe, life-threatening types, and the garden-variety types that show up as daily or weekly inconveniences. But there is a flavor of affliction for every kind of person: many fall into the thinking trap that there's a level of wealth or security that guarantees an affliction-free existence. That simply doesn't happen: it's one of the co...

One of the devilā€™s most propagated lies about the Bible is that Genesis = myth and Revelation = mystery.

Heard the above in a sermon, and it comes to mind every time a new propaganda about the Bible goes mainstream. Itā€™s a quote about 2 of 66 books but it extends further than them. It fuels the general bible-phobia -  fear of reading the Bible - plaguing believers in todayā€™s world.

The Bible was authored in simple language. And complex translations or versions have not stripped it of its simplicity. Most people can read it. And everyone can understand its central message.

Those of us that lived in this ā€œEra of Knowledgeā€ will find it difficult to blame bad decisions on false doctrine on Judgement Day. ā€œMy pastor taught me wronglyā€ or ā€œmy Christian peers led me astrayā€ may not fly. Hereā€™s why I think so:

Fact 1: The average person spends 2 hours 24 minutes daily on social media. Scrolling through text, images, video - but largely text.

Fact 2: The average reader can read 200 words per minute.

Fact 3: The KJV Bible has 783,137 words

Putting all 3 facts together, and barring for differences in pace, environmental distractions, pauses for clarifications and other constraints to be considered when undertaking a study of textual material, it stands to reason that:

WE ALL HAVE NO EXCUSE FOR NOT STUDYING THE BIBLE

From the stats above, at baseline a person can readily pull back the time spent on social media daily and go through the Bible in under a month. If they wanted to.

Iā€™m sharing this because the rate of ā€œloud and wrongā€ doctrine disseminations has taken a scary turn. POVs that can easily be dispelled by opening a page in the Bible have become acceptable. We are in an age of literacy, an age of knowledge. ChatGPT can even give you a precise Bible reference - book, chapter and verse - if you feel too lazy to open a book. So we have no excuse!

A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump. False doctrines have consequences. Stay Berean.
